General Labourer (Fire & Flood Restoration)

$16.00 / hr | On-Call leading Full-Time | St. Catharines, ON

A local client involved in fire & flood restoration and cleaning services requires labourers to assist their crews on job sites. The position can be physically demanding, and a physically fit candidate is required. Own transportation is not required, as the shop is on a bus route and teams leave from there in company vehicles to the various job sites. Candidate should be WHMIS trained and competent, as restoration work could potentially expose an individual to hazardous materials. Training is provided when dealing with these situations, and additional PPE would be required.


What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Water extraction and removal of water damaged materials.

  • Move affected contents.

  • Set up and monitor drying equipment.

  • Keep the job sites clean and professional.

  • Be available for routine on-call emergency services and after-hours work.

  • To participate in demolition, remediation, cleaning, packing, moving and being responsible for maintaining a clean and safe job site.

  • Daily completion and tracking of job paperwork, timecards, checkout forms, and other necessary paperwork.

  • Facility janitorial work as requested.

  • Assistance with contents and cleaning services as required.

  • Carpet cleaning duties.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Operations Supervisor or Operations Manager


Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent

  • Commitment to working in a team environment, with established team building abilities

  • Ability to work safely in a construction environment

  • Flexibility to adjust to shifting priorities and deadlines.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment.

  • Must lift heavy items up to 50lbs on a routine basis.

  • The workspace may be contaminated with heavy smoke residue, mould and mildew, contaminated water or other unsanitary conditions. Protective gear is available for use and is required on some heavily contaminated work sites.

  • To report for work with CSA-approved safety footwear and to wear this footwear at all times.
